MLC investment specialist clocks his tenth rogenSi training program.
Are good solid technical skills all you need to succeed in today’s workplace? Kajanga Kulatunga (KJ) says No. He’s recognised that ‘soft skills’ are an increasingly valuable career currency – and has come to rely on the rogenSi Business Learning Centre (BLC) as his secret weapon in acquiring them.

KJ started back in March 2008 with Presentation Skills, then hotly followed that course with Influencing Skills (April 2008), and Presentation Excellence a year later (June 2009). He was so happy with the value he got from these courses, he then self-funded a further 5 BLC courses: Effective Meeting Skills, Writing for Impact, SALES, Confident Negotiator and Pitching to Win Business. He’s now enrolled for, and will soon attend, Coaching Skills for Leaders.
How his career has been benefitting.
From his first rogenSi course, KJ recognised that it’s skills like presenting, pitching and influencing that can really add impact to how you perform at work.
Says KJ, “The first course I attended was a real eye opener for me, it really helped me see the importance of presenting impactfully – the tools I learned here have been invaluable to me in business.”
He continues, “For example the course covered how to change dynamics during a presentation in response to audience reaction, which has been crucial for my ability to think and adapt on my feet.”
KJ also sites a marked improvement in his negotiation skills. “It’s not just the numbers – I learned that it’s about using emotional intelligence to arrive at a win-win position. The courses helped most in providing tools to withstand difficult client conversations, especially those driven around price.”
Learning that sinks in, and stays in.
KJ says it’s the unique style of learning offered through our BLC that has meant he’s not only enjoyed the learning, but retained it.
“Their consultants bring real-world business understanding to the mix – they’re not just trainers, they all come from business backgrounds so they’re really in touch, and have complete credibility to other business people,” he says.
What’s next?
Even as KJ embarks on his 10th consecutive BLC course, he indicates he’s not finished yet.
